About Columbia Fence Installation
A Maryland fencing contractor that quotes its own work and builds it with its own installers.
Who You Are Actually Calling
Columbia Fence Installation is a Maryland Home Improvement Commission licensed fencing contractor working in Columbia and across Howard County. We are not a national brand with a local phone number and we are not a lead site selling your address to three strangers. The person who measures your yard works here, the installers who build the fence work here, and the warranty is ours to honor.
How We Got Opinionated About Post Holes
Spend enough time replacing fences in Howard County and you notice the same failure over and over. It is almost never the panels. It is a post that was set shallow, or set in packed dirt, or poured without a gravel base so water sat against it through every freeze-thaw cycle until the ground lifted it. That is why we spend disproportionate time and money on the part of the fence nobody ever sees. Everything above grade is the easy part.
What We Believe About Quoting
The most common complaint in this trade is a quote that changed. A per-foot number over the phone becomes a different number on install day, once someone notices the slope, the tree roots, the old fence that has to come out, or the gate hardware that was never included. We do not quote that way. We walk the yard, we measure it, and we write down every line — posts, panels, concrete, gates, demolition, haul-away and the approval paperwork. The total is flat and it is what you pay.
The Paperwork Is Part of the Job
In Columbia, the fence is the easy half. Your village architectural committee reviews exterior alterations, the county has its own requirements depending on height and placement, and Maryland law requires a Miss Utility ticket before anyone digs. Homeowners are genuinely anxious about getting this wrong, and they are right to be — nobody wants to be told to take a finished fence down. So we do it. We prepare the exterior alteration application, mark the fence line on your plat, attach the material spec, pull what the county requires, and file the locate. You sign; we handle the rest.
