Do I need approval from my village in Columbia?
Almost certainly yes. Properties under Columbia Association covenants go through their village architectural committee for an exterior alteration before a fence goes up, and that review looks at height, material, color and placement. We prepare the application package for you.
Does Howard County require a permit for a fence?
It depends on the height, the location on the lot, and whether the fence encloses a pool. We check the current county requirements for your specific plan and pull whatever is required before we schedule the dig.
How tall can my fence be?
Rear and side yard heights are usually more generous than front yard heights, and pool enclosures have their own minimums and self-latching rules. Your village covenant can be stricter than the county. We confirm both against your plat before quoting.
How long does the installation take?
Most residential yards are a one to three day build once materials are on site. The longer part is upstream — architectural review and permitting can add a few weeks, which is why we start that paperwork the day you approve the quote.
Do you call Miss Utility before digging?
Always. Maryland law requires a Miss Utility ticket before any excavation, we file it, and we wait out the mark-out window. No exceptions and no shortcuts on that.
How deep do you set the posts?
Below the local frost line, in a hole wide enough for a proper concrete collar, over a gravel base so water drains away from the post instead of sitting against it. In Howard County clay, that drainage detail is what separates a fence that stays plumb from one that heaves.
Do you remove and haul away the old fence?
Yes, and it is a line on the quote rather than a surprise. That includes the old panels, the buried post concrete, and the spoil from the new holes.
Who owns a fence on the property line?
Maryland treats a boundary fence as a matter between neighbors, and sharing the cost is a private agreement. We stake off the line from your plat and, when there is any doubt, we recommend setting the fence just inside your own boundary so nobody has a claim.
What warranty do I get?
A written warranty on our workmanship, plus the manufacturer's warranty on the material itself, both handed over in writing at the walkthrough.
